ABCs of Our Classroom

Attendance: Much of the work we do at school is group oriented and involves interaction with classmates.  Please view school as a priority and have your child attend everyday except in cases of illness or emergency.

Book Orders: Book orders will be sent home monthly.  This is a great way to purchase books inexpensively.

Communication: Conferences will be scheduled with all parents in October, but feel free to set up one with me at anytime you have a concern about your child's progress in my class. You may also email me with concerns.

EmergenciesPlease make sure we have the correct emergency numbers and information on file for your child.

Dismissal: School ends at 2:45 pm. You must send a note to school if your child is to go home a different way than his normal schedule. If you forget to send a note, simply call the office to let them know of the change in your child's pick-up.
Field TripsOur class will take several field trips throughout the year.  If you would like to chaperone one of these trips, please make sure you have completed the volunteer application that can be found on the district's website.
Grades: You can monitor your child's grades online through TxConnect.  Progress reports will be sent home every 3 weeks and report cards every 9 weeks.  Graded work will come home on Wednesdays.  You will sign the portfolio sheet each week and return it with the graded work folder.  Ungraded assignments and notes may stay at home. Please keep graded work in the folder until the end of the 9-week grading period.
Homework: Your child will have weekly homework in reading and math. Homework is to be completed by Friday.
Illness: If your child is truly not feeling well, please keep him at home so the rest of the class stays healthy.  When he returns to school, please remember to send a note or doctor's note explaining the reason for the absence.
Job Well Done: Each week several students will be recognized for a job well done in the classroom.  Names of students who have met A.R. goals and fact fluency will appear in the newsletter
Kindness: We will learn about being kind to ourselves and others every day.  Caldwell Elementary is a No Place for Hate campus and has a zero tolerance policy for bullying.
Lunch: Our lunch time is from 11:31:-12:01.  You are always welcome to join your child at one of the tables in the foyer or one of the picnic tables outside.  As a reminder, the playground is off limits to play on during the lunch hour.
Money: When sending money to school, please put it inside a baggie or envelope.
Newsletters: Newsletters will be emailed out on Fridays. Paper copies will be sent home with students who do not have internet access at home.  The newsletter includes important dates and information, as well as spelling words for the following week.

Office: The phone number for the office is (512) 594-6400.

Parties: Class parties will be held before winter break, on Valentine's Day, and at the end of the year.  If you are interested in helping out with any of these, please let me know.  You are welcome to send in cookies to celebrate your child's birthday.  Cookies must be left in the office until the end of the day, when they will be passed out in class.
Reading: Students are expected to read a minimum of 30 minutes a night/5 nights a week. Reading will be recorded on the reading log: title and pages. Keep in mind, the more your child reads, the stronger reader he will become!
Questions: Please feel free to email me at jennifer.ziegler@pfisd.net or call me at       (512) 594-6471.  I will do my best to respond within 24 hours.
Specials: Each Your child will alternate between PE and Art/Music.  Please make sure your child wears sneakers to school on PE days (or you may send a pair of sneakers to school for your child to change into).

Tardies: Your child needs to be at school by 7:40 a.m. each day.  Arriving after this time will not only result in a tardy, but will also cause your child to lose valuable instructional time.  Also keep in mind that 3 or more tardies can keep your child from receiving perfect attendance at the end of the year.

Unique: Each child is unique and has his own special gifts and talents.  I recognize that in my classroom, and I encourage you to avoid comparing your child to others.

Volunteers: I love volunteers!  Moms, dads, grandparents....you can volunteer in class or work on things for our class at home.  Please let me know if you'd like to help and  I can find a classroom job for you!
Website: Our class website will be updated weekly with important dates, spelling words, and much more, so check it out!

I am eXcited to work with You and Your child this year!  Make sure they get plenty of Zzzzz's each night as we have exciting days planned for this year!
